Collection: Loïc Cailbourdin
This is a remarkable estate located in the highly sought-after Pouilly-Fumé appellation, in the heart of the Loire Valley, known for its elegant, mineral, and highly complex Sauvignon Blancs. Despite the appellation's growing renown, which now places its wines among the most prestigious in the Loire, prices remain relatively reasonable, especially considering the wines' aging potential, which will improve over the next ten years or so.
Following our tasting with the estate, we selected three wines that perfectly embody finesse and minerality: Racines, which reveals all the power and minerality of a true Pouilly-Fumé; Les Cris, which stands out for its tension; and finally Nanogyra, more austere in its youth, but which will reveal all its power and complexity after a few years of aging.
Domaine Cailbourdin, a 13-hectare family estate, cultivates its vines on clay-limestone and siliceous soils, typical of the Pouilly-Fumé terroir. These soils impart remarkable minerality and freshness to the wines, allowing the estate to produce wines of great purity. The estate's approach is based on environmentally friendly practices, combining sustainable viticulture and natural methods that preserve the richness of the terroir.
The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring rigorous sorting of only the healthiest bunches. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit expression, with slow fermentation to develop aromas. This method results in perfectly balanced wines, where the vivacity of Sauvignon Blanc blends harmoniously with subtle, typical smoky notes characteristic of the appellation.
