Domaine du Vieux Mûrier

Domaine Le Vieux Murier, located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, is the brainchild of Florian Buit, originally from the Drôme region. He acquired Syrah vines to create this promising estate. To perfect his winemaking skills, Florian boldly sought out Jean-Louis Chave, an iconic figure in Hermitage and a renowned Syrah expert. This collaboration allowed him to become cellar master and vinify the estate's first vintages.

Despite this prestigious experience, Florian prefers to let his wines speak for themselves during tastings. His Crozes-Hermitage wines are distinguished by their purity, depth, and precision. The current climate, marked by high temperatures, complicates the production of white wines made from Roussanne and Marsanne grapes. However, the estate manages to produce remarkable wines, notably the "Le Jardin" cuvée.

The "Le Jardin" cuvée is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. It offers a lovely acidity, aromas of yellow fruits and citrus, with a herbaceous touch.
The "Les Saviaux" cuvée, made from Syrah, presents expressive aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by spicy notes of black pepper, licorice, and wild herbs. With aeration, floral touches of violet and smoky accents emerge, reflecting the typicity of Syrah in this terroir.

2023 was marked by contrasting weather conditions: a rainy autumn followed by a dry winter. After a beautiful flowering, the summer was punctuated by several hailstorms. It would seem that the vines are adapting to these difficult vintages, as the wines display excellent balance: the reds are luscious and full of fruit, and the whites are very well-balanced, which is increasingly rare in the region.
