Jérôme Bretaudeau manages Domaine de Bellevue, a major player in the revival of the Muscadet region . Located in Gétigné, near Clisson, his estate covers approximately 15 hectares spread across several communes. After working for 13 years at Alain Gaubert's estate, he founded his own in 2001.
The terroir of this region, with its granitic soils rich in silica and quartz, allows for the production of fresh, mineral wines with low alcohol content. Domaine de Bellevue comprises 10 parcels with varied soils ranging from gabbro and amphibolite to granite, crucial to the diversity of Jérôme's wines.
An innovator, Jérôme cultivates not only Melon de Bourgogne, the flagship grape variety of Muscadet, but also Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Savagnin, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris . His experimentation with rare grape varieties demonstrates his commitment to diversity.
In the cellar, he adapts fermentation techniques to each grape variety to best express their character , using indigenous yeasts to preserve their intrinsic qualities. Aging, carried out in oak barrels, modern tanks, cement eggs, and amphorae, is chosen to match the desired profile of the wine.
Committed to organic and biodynamic practices, Bretaudeau obtained organic certification in 2012 and Biodyvin in 2020. Its ability to combine grape variety and terroir, while experimenting with various winemaking processes, has earned it international recognition, with its wines being highly prized by enthusiasts worldwide.
