Collection: Santa Duc

Last year, we shared our favorites from several estates in the southern Rhône (Gour de Chaulé, Mayard, Clos du Caillou, etc.). This year, we continue to highlight a region in which we strongly believe, driven by a young generation of winemakers committed to a quest for finesse, built upon naturally intense aromatic foundations. The result is wines that are at once profound, velvety, and persistent on the palate.
We have been following Domaine Santa Duc in Gigondas for several years at trade fairs, and the discovery of the latest vintages confirms the winemaking talent of its owner, the Gras family: from Côtes-du-Rhône to Châteauneuf-du-Pape Habemus Papam, the wines stand out for their precision and mastery — a classic of tomorrow.

Santa Duc

At the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Gras family has been cultivating vines for several generations, with long-standing roots on the plateau and limestone slopes that define the Gigondas appellation. Under Benjamin's guidance, the estate has refined its style towards aromatic precision, fine textures, and a clear expression of the terroir, notably through whole-cluster fermentation and aging in large wooden containers, casks, and jars.
Gigondas itself has undergone an evolution in recent years. Long associated with an image of sheer power, the appellation now reveals nuanced profiles, based on better-controlled ripeness, measured extraction, and less demonstrative aging. The wines gain in floral character and freshness without sacrificing their southern depth. The altitude of the plots and the limestone soils, as well as the influence of the Mistral wind, all contribute to this balance.
